How recruiters review your resume: 3 tips to consider

Ever wondered how Managers and Recruiters review your resume?

For experienced recruiters, it can take as little as 5 seconds and in an increasingly competitive market, it’s essential that your job application stands out.

You might spend hours updating your resume, making sure you list all your previous responsibilities and achievements, but if it doesn’t capture the right information for the specific job you’re applying for, you might miss out.

It’s not hard, you just need to know exactly what Managers and Recruiters look for.

1. Include tangible achievements

Highlight your suitability for the role by including tangible achievements. Did you increase profitability by 10%? Or automated processes to save time? Include it, we want to know that you can perform the role and this is the best way to showcase it.

 2. Be short and succinct

It only takes a few seconds to review your resume, so stand out by adding a short career summary on the first page. Think of this as your elevator pitch as to why you are the right person for the role you’re applying for. Keep it to 2-4 pages and don’t be repetitive, when you’ve had similar jobs with the same responsibilities, you only need to mention it once!

3. Only include relevant information

It’s 2022, you don’t need to include your home address anymore! If you’ve been in the workforce for a few years, employers don’t need to know your achievements and interests in high school. Be strategic and ensure that you use relevant keywords and information from the job ad.

Now that you know what Managers and Recruiters look for, you need to be able to turn that information into a strong job application.

At Insearch Talent Solutions, our Career Coaching Program will equip you with the right skills and knowledge to prepare a strong job application, every single time. Once you learn these essentials, you’ll have the confidence knowing that you can apply for any role, in any environment and have given yourself the best chance.
